Old carpet has a way of hiding just how tired a room has become — until you pull it up. This bedroom's carpet had gone matted and stained after years of wear, so the homeowner asked us to replace it with something more durable and easier to keep clean: wide-plank laminate flooring.
Tearing out the old carpet
The job starts with rolling up and removing the old carpet and pad, right down to the subfloor. This is also when hidden issues — squeaky boards, uneven spots, leftover staples and tack strips — get found and dealt with before anything new goes down.
Prepping the subfloor
Once the subfloor is exposed, we lay down a vapor/underlayment barrier across the whole room. This layer protects the new flooring from moisture coming up through the subfloor and adds a bit of cushioning and sound dampening underfoot.
Installing the laminate
With the prep done, the new wide-plank laminate goes in board by board, working outward from the doorway and keeping every row tight and level. Good laminate installation is mostly about patience here — consistent gaps, straight lines, and clean cuts around doorways and corners make the difference between a floor that looks fine and one that looks great.
The result
The finished floor completely changes the feel of the room — brighter, warmer, and a lot more durable than the carpet it replaced. No more trapped stains or matted traffic patterns, just a clean, modern look that's easy to maintain.
